Default Dirmon2: CPU usage is very high

I have a problem with the CPU usage going way up (95%) and memory getting consumed (keeps on increasing). This appears to be happening whether I use it as a service or "hidden".

I'm using version 0.6.38.

FYI, I am using Dirmon2 to launch a batch file. The batch file allows me to start ShowAnalyzer with a low priority with the command "start /low ShowAnalyzer.exe".

My observations are the same as yours however, there is a 'Thread Priority' setting in the SA GUI and a 'Throttling' setting that will keep CPU usage to a lower controllable level.

I have not had an instance where SA/Dirmon2 has tied system resources in a way that slowed or preventing anything from running properly.

I did not know that SA had a thread priority. I will look for it.

I also use Dirmon2 to start ffmpeg (mpeg -> XVID encoder). I checked and did not find a thread priority option.

However this does to resolve the initial problem of Dirmon2 taking 95% of my CPU. Right now I can't run it because of this. I realize that in an earlier version Jere released a fix for this. Could it be broken again?

Jere?

I don't think so since the previous high CPU usage was occuring in the overseerer. And what you describe doesn't seem like anything in that area.

If you go to a command line and run DirMon do you see the same behavior? Are there any useful messages being printed?

I'm guessing you meant Dirmon2 not Dirmon. I started Dirmon2 from the command prompt as you suggested and got the following messages:

JobFinder::GetOutstandingJobs()
JobRunner loop
JobRunner queue updated followed by a list of jobs.
JobRunner loop
JobRunner loop
...

I noticed that I got an error message "Cannot create a file that already exists."
I also got "The system cannot find the file specified.".

In an attempt to isolate what was the file the system thought already existed, I moved all recordings that ShowAnalyzer had processed to a temp directory and I noticed that Dirmon2 usage is now close to 0%.

How many files did you move? (Roughly)

I moved 21 files. Unfortunately, the high CPU usage returned soon after that. I don't know if this helps but it seems the usage skyrockets soon after the error message "Cannot create a file that already exists." is displayed. Could be a coincidence.

Probably not. I'll take a look.
