Default Detecting Last Time Drive Was Accessed

Hi.

Any of you folks know of a way to check withing Windows XP on when was the last time a drive was written to (like the time/date) without checking with the drive itself?

In other words, does WinXP keep a list of drive letters and last time they were accessed/written to?

I am asking because if this is available, it would fix the problem with DirMon2 where DirMon2 has to go out and wake up every drive in order to figure out if any new recordings were done.

I have 6 drives setup to spin down after 10 minutes of non-use and DirMon2 keeps them awake and spinning - all 6 of them. I know you have black out periods where DirMon2 will not check, but then SA wont start on new recordings.

Found it !

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...s/filemon.mspx

Filemon shows not only last time a drive was accessed, but by what program and file was accessed.

I don't think that's feasible for me. Filemon installs special drivers that intercept all the drive i/o calls. I don't think most users would like that, and, I'm just not that good.
