Default DirMon2 Crashes

The lastest version of DirMon .6.3 crashes almost immediately. I am running winXP, single processor AMD, lastest patches. Crashes both when started via service and manual hidden mode. Crashes even if no directory is listed to process. Running AVG and standard firewall, but have turned both off with no fix. Any ideas how to see what the problem is? Note, this all started with the current version, v.5 works fine.

In my case, I dont have one. However, I do run Vista :-)

I checked the executables in Dependancy Walker. Looks like it is blowing up because it can't find certian functions. I've attached the zipped up dependancy walker file. I've never saved anything from Dependancy Walker, so let me know if you can actually use the file :-)

I've downloaded dependency walker and took a look at the file you posted. It didn't show anything useful. Do you know what functions are missing or what module they're missing from.

To be honest, I'm not sure DirMon will work in Vista due to the security changes from XP to Vista. Since I don't have Vista, it will be a little while before I can check it out.

Has anyone used DirMon2 in Vista successfully?

Yup. I've been using it for about 3 months now to process my Vista MCE shows and it has been working flawlessly. I prefer using DirMon2 than the DVRMSToolBox file watcher. Though I leave my Vista MCE box logged in as an admin all the time with UAC turned off, so I don't know if it works with limited accounts or UAC turned on.

I'm actually using dirmon2 on vista right now. It works on my sagetv box just fine, but it doesn't work on my "real" computer.

Besides the crash on my real computer (which could be my fault, actually), the only problem is that dirmon2 wants to read/write to the program files directory.

When I run dirmon2 as a normal user, vista will transparently map the program files directory to what it calls the "virtual store", which is a writable directory in my homedir. Thus, as a normal user I can't make changes to config files in the real program files directory but as a service, dirmon2 will read config files from the real directory, not my personal one. The solution has been to just run the config program as an admin so it can use the real program files directory.

SageTV has this problem as well - it uses it's program files directory for all the configuration. I'm not actually sure what the microsoft recommended approach is for user <-> service interaction, but I can tell you that they seem to really want developers to treat the program files directory as read-only.
