Default Changes to Forums

Jere and I are looking at making some changes to the forum. Currently we're looking at a tool such as the one used at Super User. This may be an addition to the existing forum as only a bug/feature tracking option, as a replacement for the existing forum (although it may not work very well for discussions), or just leave things alone. Please let us know what you think of the options

I'm assuming those huge tag buttons can be changed to something a little less obtrusive, otherwise it would be nearly unreadable

I'm not sure what customization we can do, but I agree they do take up way too much real estate. If we decide to go that way then we'll look at the ability to customize before making a change. We may even put it up as a beta while we make sure it meets all the needs.

That new format is terrible, how about you just add a FAQ annd Know issues sticky to the 1.0 forum. That would stop have of the post...

That format is terrible. Its actually terribly simple. If you just provide some basic information about what is happening re development and responding to issues, ppl 'will be satisfied. They don't expect (reasonably) instant solutions unless they have paid for something they didn't get. I think what annoys ppl is no response whatsoever. If you post a list of known issues going in one sticky forum post, then ppl will know that their frustrations are being considered and will know not to make useless forum posts. The problem with this forum is that noone seems to know what is happening or not happening and there is never any information from Jere as to what he is intending to address, let alone when he will do it. Its not a question of not appreciating what Jere has or will do, in fact it is the ultimate frustration of not knowing anything about something everyone who has bothered to register for this forum dearly wants, that is, when they will be able skip commercials. So you just need to be realistic and tell everyone what is happening or not...

Have you considered adding a ticket system, like Trac or BugZilla?

Personally, I am fan of Trac, but I like both over the format used at SuperUser.

(One of those would be in addition to, not in place of, the current forums.)

I'm going to close this thread now. Jere has found another forum software that also includes some great features for Bug Tracking and Feature Requests. I don't want to put out too much information until we're closer to a release, but I should be posting more information soon (probably after the holidays).

I forgot to mention that it is not the superuser.com format.
