Settings for HD content?

I'm having an awful time with HD content on the old SA. e.g., Conan OBrien's show in HD. SA misses the start of commercials and misses returning back to the show. Played with schoolhouse a bit but can't seem to come up with the best solution.
Anyone have consistent settings that work?
