Hi there,
yesterday (Dec-8-2009) I downloaded and installed ShowAnalyzer 2 beta trial to test it with wtv files on my windows 7 media pc.
A few hours later a scan by AVG Free (
AVG Free - Download installation files & documentation) alerted me to a trojan called "Generic_c.CIYN", which was contained in the MSI. I hadn't come across ShowAnalyzer before yesterday but looking at your site you seem like a genuine character (so far as anyone can ever tell).
I'm just wondering why AVG, which has never falsely alerted me before would think there is a trojan buried in your installer?
Perhaps you could run the free version of AVG yourself to see whether or not AVG is in fact falsely alerting for all installers or just the one on my machine.
Obviously I understand that viruses and the like can attach themselves to almost anything that is executed but I installed a number of trial applications yesterday and none of those were affected.
In addition the specific details of the location were ShowAnalyzerSuiteInstaller.msi:\ShowAnalyzerSuiteI nstaller.Cab\SAREGPROXY.EXE, which to me at least, suggests that AVG has found something about the registration proxy executable that it doesn't like and marked it as malicious, probably because like a Trojan it contains code to covertly send private data somewhere.
I've posted this as much as anything so that you are aware that it is showing up and in order for you to investigate should you choose. My machine seems unaffected so I'm not bothered for myself, but less savvy users may be concerned by this type of alert.
(I've tried to attach a jpeg of the AVG alert but it may be the wrong dimensions).
