Default hardware up grade

Hi I am after some guidence as to an upgrade path am looking to reduce encoding time is it better to invest in the graphics card or is encoding handled more by the CPU still running a giga EP45-UD3p with a E8500 3.16 4 gig ram and a giga nvida 9500 with i think 512 memory i must have hdmi out. Where would i get best bang for buck i dont want complete new system as once back log of encoding down even current systen will be able to do it during the day. Just dont know where best investment is CPU or GPU. This is a PVR so noise is an issue.

If you're talking about commercial detection, that's all CPU, and it's not encoding, it's decoding and scanning. If you're talking about converting video from one format to another, that's a question for a different forum, but I know that some software can harness the GPU (mainly Nvidia) for a speed increase.
