Default Description of Advanced Options

Is there a document that describes what affect each advanced option has on the output files? I see that everyone is tweaking the settings and getting better results. I can also understand the naming on the options, but I don't quite get what each settings implications are.

Thanks!

I have the same questions. While some of the options seem to explain themselves, I'm not sure what others do. Also, the depth of analysis to me sounds like how detailed it analzing the show, but I seem to have better results at low settings than high settings.

Also, what do the throttle and idle settings do? These are very important to me as my media computer running sage is a pentium III 733 and it struggles to do anything else when watching Sage, so right now I have dirmon set to not process between 0600 0100, which i hope makes it not process from 6 am to 1 am....

Is that the best way or can I simply chage some of the paramenters in SA?

That's to be expected. A lower number means that SA should go slower and go deeper into the recording.

SA, by its very nature, will use just about as much CPU as it can get its hands on. The throttle will let you limit how much CPU it tries to use. The "Maximum CPU usage" is the maximum percentage of CPU time that SA should consume. I normally limit mine to 30%.

Since SA does some processing between the CPU usage checks, on some machines it is possible that SA will exceed its allotment. If that happens then slowly (note: slowly, i.e. one number at time) increase the "How much to slow down" until it is not exceeding its limit. If the "How much to slow down" is too high then SA's CPU usage will never reach its allotment. It is a balancing game.

The times just allow you to limit when the throttling takes effect.

That is correct.

On the topic of the throttle settings. What do the start time, end time settings do? What format is the time in?

They indicate when the throttling settings should take effect. They are in 24 hour military time.

For example 3:30pm is 1530.

Will it properly wrap past midnight? For example I want to throttle between 8pm and 1am, so I set it for 2000 to 0100.
