Here's a hint: fseek doesn't work on files larger than 2gig. Change it to fseek64 and a lot of wierd hard to track down problems "just go away".

For the past couple of weeks, I've been working on the new SchoolHouse. One of my frustrations with the old SchoolHouse was that the preview for any given frame didn't show what SA saw at that frame. Apparently DirectShow doesn't allow for frame accurate jumps.

So, I have been adapting SA's decoder to be used by the preview pane to show exactly the picture that is being analyzed. Easy, right? Umm... no. My decoder is designed for serving frame after frame in rapid succession. I can stop the decoder, rewind it to a new point and resume the serving, but going to a specific frame decoding just it (and the required I frames and P frames if it is a B frame) is a whole 'nother ball game. I could rewrite it so that it is capable of said behavior, but then I loose the "this is EXACTLY what SA sees for this frame" ability that I am doing this for in the first place. Aargh!

Bear with me, I'll get it there eventually.

Really looking forward to the new SchoolHouse. I started with 7.2 and out of the box, it was picking off the commercials without much fuss.

7.5 is missing some of the stuff 7.2 would catch.

Keep up the fight!

My wife is 37 weeks pregnant today (my first). I never knew a baby needed so much "prep" work. So I haven't had a lot of programming time available, but I have gotten a lot of "thinking" time.

The thing really bugging me is that many of the errors have been reported, I can't replicate. I thought I had eliminated any possibility of concurrent processes interfering, but, I guess not.

Ditto...

I have two girls (2 & 4). Get used to the "prep" work. You have a lot in store. You will prep to go to the hospital, prep to go home from the hospital & prep to send them off to college. (With a whole lot of "prepping" in between.)

It is also an interesting switch in terms of thinking of time in week long spans. You will proudly say that your baby is 12 and a half weeks old... etc.

You will also be able to say that "I haven't had a good night's sleep in xx weeks"

Good luck...

Those of you that enjoy reading my "poor man's blog" to see my frustration should enjoy yourselfs. Here's the story:

I have today off from work and my wife agreed to let me spend the day coding. Well, it was a good plan. You see, my development machine is a laptop and the backlight on the LCD went out last night. Cristina (my wife) did agree to let me by a new computer, but none of the local computers are what I want so I'm going to fix my current one. Unfortunately the FL Inverter that I need is in Miami and won't be here until tomorrow. There goes my day of coding! ARRGGHH and double ARRGGHH!!

So anyone who pays for a key via PayPal won't get it until tomorrow. Sorry....
