Default Interesting issue...

I don't think this is a S.A. issue, but it is kind of weird. I'm using Sage with latest BETA S.A. (4/07/2007). It ran on CSI miami recorded by a hvr-1600 over the air from 4/09/2007. I'm using edl files. When I play the file and it first come to a commerical break, it skips early (during the show) and comes our early (during the commercial). When I rewind it and play it again, it skips perfectly. So it appears S.A. is correctly marking the time, but the show content changes relative to the time.

So, S.A. has the first commercial start at 5 min 17 sec. The first time I play the file, the skip occurs when timeline says 5 min 17 sec, which is during the show. I then rewind the show, and now the commerical skip occurs when show is at 5 min 17 sec, but now it concides with the commerical. As I watch the show, this happens at each commercial break. The time offset does not appear to be consistent enough to use padding. Also, on standard definition shows it appears that everything is in order.

Other system info, amd3200, 1 gb ram, sata raid array, 7600GT, nvidia video decoder set to smart, ac3 audio filter, running in FSE mode with VMR9.

It is wierd. It is also (as I understand it) a common problem. I don't have any idea what would fix it.

Are you watching on a TV or a monitor? Do you have ReClock running? Reclock messes with timing so it may be causing the problem or it may be able to fix the problem. (This is an uneducated theory, nothing else )

Thanks for the reply, also great work on S.A. and dirmon!

I am using DVI to HDMI 1080p on a Sony. Never have connected to a monitor. I'm not running reclock or anything like that. I need more data, but it seems like the breakdown of this is:

Standard Definition - no problems

720P High Def - S.A. and timeline are coordinated; however, sometimes skip forward/backward justs to weird places in the timeline

1080I high def - S.A. finds correct time, but when each commerical comes up, the video and time are not aligned the first time, after rewind they are lined up.

Pretty basic install, drivers, sage, S.A., Dirmon. nvidia video decoder.

This is a known problem with SageTV's media components. There is info in the sage forum and Sage have admitted that they have a problem and are trying to fix it.
I posted as sundansx there and even have pictures up of a video playing in videoredo, sage and zoomplayer that show the inaccuracies. The problem is worst in HD files. Until that is fixed, sage comskip will be somewhat problematic.
