Does anyone know a significant reason why this beta is closed? It seems strange to me, as most reprots have been that it is pretty stable. it seems the OPTION to download it would be nice, to say the least.

For one thing the early versions were not stable and needed significant troubleshooting.

Pretty sad day when I have to switch to a free program (comskip) instead of a piece of software I paid for (ShowAnalyzer) because there are no new releases for new compression technology (h.264) and Beta's aren't given out.

I may say goodbye to SA, very sad day.

Everyone above that wanted access should now see the SAV1 forum. In there you can download the installer. Please read the stickies before you start testing.

The most significant reason it is closed is because I don't believe it is ready for public consumption.

And, it isn't really that closed. I'm yet to deny access to anyone who asked.

Truth be told, you don't even have to be a current license holder of ShowAnalyzer to test V1. That's right. Oddly enough, you have to pay to get the h.264 version of the free program (ComSkip) but you don't have to pay to get the h.264 version of the commercial program(ShowAnalyzer). You do have to be registered on these forums and I do want active feedback but that is about it.

BTW, very nice work so far on SA...Although you claim that the current commercial analysis of h.264 in the test version "sucks", I disagree with you. I've been happy with it. It's not perfect, but it passes the WAF.

There are two problems I have with it. One is that I can't figure out how to tune it (the default is pretty good) and the other is the lack of profiles based on information such what channel it was recorded on. Other than that it is really good now.

I really, really don't want tuning to be something the user does. The end game is that you tell SAV1 where it messed up and SAV1 corrects itself.

Now those corrections will need to be heavily weighted for specific channels/sources so profiles are on the todo list. (Next, as a matter of fact).
